About Summer Concerts:

 

How often are concerts?

​

The Hagerstown Municipal Band brings concerts to the community on a weekly basis throughout the summer. The Concert Band performs for 10 weeks with the HMB Big Band performing the 11th week to conclude the season.

 

When are concerts?

​

Concerts are held on Sunday evenings at 7:00PM during the summer months, usually starting the second Sunday in June.

 

Where are concerts held?

​

Most concerts are held at the Peter Buys Band Shell located in the center of Hagerstown City Park. Occasionally a concert is held at another location such as North Hagerstown High School, so please check our Events page to be sure.

Do summer concerts cost anything to attend?

​

No. The Hagerstown Municipal Band has always offered the Summer Concert Series free of charge to patrons. This is in large thanks to the generous giving of the City of Hagerstown.

Are all concerts the same?

​

No. Each week is a brand new concert, filled with a variety of selections to please all in attendance.

​

What is the band's rain policy?

​

In the event of threatening weather prior to a Sunday evening concert, a decision will be made at 6:55 PM (5 minutes before the concert) whether or not to proceed with that evening's performance.

 

About Membership:

Does the band have vacancies?

​

Players are scheduled by the band's section leaders for either all or some of the 11 weeks of the summer season. If you feel you have appropriate experience as a band musician, have excellent sight-reading skills and can be available for a rehearsal schedule of Monday and Thursday evenings 7:30pm to 9:00pm and concert performance Sunday evenings 7:00pm to 8:00pm, there might be opportunities for you to perform with the Band.

Are band members compensated?

​

The City of Hagerstown provides a yearly contribution to the HMB that enables it to operate and provide a small compensation to the musicians for their time and talents for each week's rehearsals and concert.

How do I get information about joining the Band?

​

During the season, come to City Park and talk with the Director and/or Section Leader prior to or after a rehearsal or concert. More information will be provided at that time.
