Kenneth B. Slater
Kenneth B. Slater began the study of the cornet with his father, George. Upon graduation from the New York Military Academy, he joined the U.S. Marine Band and played First Trumpet in the Band and Orchestra for 10 years. The next ten were spent as Cornet Soloist with the U.S. Army Field Band touring the world. From 1959-1969, he served as Director of the Hagerstown Municipal Band.
During his lifetime in music, he has also served as Director of the Almas Temple Shrine Band in D.C., the Shippensburg Band in Shippensburg, PA and performed with the National Concert Band in Washington. He has taught privately in the area and has appeared as a clinician, soloist and conductor on numerous occasions.
He maintained membership in many Masonic organizations, the Pennsylvania Bandmasters Association and the American Bandmasters Association. Mr Slater died in 2005.
